Boatowner’s Mechanical and Electrical Manual

It occurred to me that I know absolutely nothing on engines of any kind. Now recently I got my boaters license and I did learn the difference between outboard and inboard motors. I’ve also been practicing to start and run an outboard motor on a fairly small dingy, however that does not teach me how to repair an engine! So I’ve invested in the book Boatowner’s Mechanical and Electrical Manual: How to Maintain, Repair, and Improve Your Boat’s Essential Systems.

This book turns out to be more like a textbook. Kind of intimidating but actually once I started to read it, I realize it is going to teach me every little detail of an engine… starting with how batteries are designed and function!

  1. That book will be very helpful. I’m going through mine now as I look at adjusting the electrical system on my boat by adding battery capacity. Nigel Calder does a great job explaining things. Another author to look out for is Don Casey. He’s got good books on boating repairs. I would recommend “Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual” as it’s 6 books in one.

Good luck and have fun. :-)
